Whale Watching between Cape Point and Simons Town

Apart from its location and scenic beauty, the city of Cape Town is also a very popular destination for tourists who are keen upon observing marine mammals. One such mammal which draws thousands of enthusiasts is the gigantic whale watching.

In Cape Town, the ideal location to observe the marine mammal is the western half of False Bay. Another perfect spot where whale watching is done is on Simons Town. There are many whale watching tours between Cape Point and Simons Town which provide an experience of a life time to visitors. These places offer a homely ambience as these mammals require shallow waters to survive.

The whale season is the time of the year when there it is almost certain that the tourists will spot whales. It is thus the peak period for conducting the tours. The whale season is normally from August to October. It is the period during which the whales mate and females nurse their young ones.

Nursing the calf is the primary reason why females choose to stay in Cape Point and Simon Town. Although getting too close to the whales is not permitted, the tourists can get close enough to see the whales. Some species of whales like the Southern right whale are commonly seen in False Bay. Other species like the killer whale and humpback whales can also be seen within False Bay.
