Johannesburg the second largest city of Africa and is home to some 6 million people. Of course it is hard to explore the city in one day but here is a brief itinerary to explore
Johannesburg in one day.
For a nice breakfast in the morning, head through a cafe at a bustling bistro in the cosmopolitan Melrose Arch.
Then take a drive to the historic suburbs of Johannesburg from the Munro Drive to the crest of the historical gold-bearing ridge. Have a view of the largest urban forest in the world that is over the famous Nelson Mandela bridge. Then continue through the cultural hub of Newtown into the Central Business District (CBD) where the elegant grandeur of the 1920s and 1930s resonates in the Art Deco buildings of the city.
In the mid-morning visit the world-class Apartheid Museum (Northern Parkway & Gold Reef Road, Ormonde; Phone: +27 (0)11 309 4700) and there see how South Africa's past to present.
Head through the famous Gold Reef City over the way for a lunch break and experience the vivid view of mining life of Johannesburg dating back to a century.
Visit the famous Soweto located in the south in the afternoon and there walk along the Vilakazi Street that the two Nobel Prize winners lived there. And have a drink at Sakhumzi or Nambitha to experience some traditional African food in the company of an African dance show outside. Regarding your time schedule, take a chance to visit the famous Hector Pietersen Memorial and its museum and then Kliptown’s new public square and open air museum as well.
Back to the north, have a break for sundowner drinks in the bohemian avenues of Melville and there enjoy the street artists, students and lively clubs & bars.
When it comes to dine, head through north and dine alfresco at the famous Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton. And there enjoy the night and shopping in Johannesburg.
