The Pilanesberg National Park & Game Reserve - Johannesburg

Visit Johannesburg Pilanesberg Park in South Africa Video

The Pilanesberg National Park & Game Reserve in Johannesburg is situated in the Northwest province, about a 2 hour drive northwest of Johannesburg.

The park ranks among the largest of the national parks in South Africa (it is in fact the fourth largest park), and covers an area of 55,000 hectares.

It also has the bonus of being a non-malaria area and is home to the 'Big Five'.

The areas of interest are;

  • Ivory Tree Lodge : Ivory Tree Game Lodge is situated in the north eastern region of the Pilanesberg National Park, the closest point of entry is through Bakgatla Gate. Nestled in the basin of an ancient amphitheatre divided by riverine woodlands and elephant trails lies an exclusive lodge development site. The central facility includes a stunning feature pool, bar, conference room, dinning room, boma, luxury spa, reception and curio shop.
  • Sun City : The Palace of the Lost City at Sun City is one of the most enticing travellers' destinations in the world, a tribute to man's imagination and revered for its art and architecture. Fabled to be the royal residence of an ancient king, it is truly one of the 'Worlds Leading Hotels". The Palace lavishes its guests with 5-star service, and is luxurious in every facet of its fabulous architecture and décor.
  • Bakgatla : Bakgatla offers colonial style chalets, safari tents and camping facilities. Own braai area. Pub, swimming pool, playground, game drives in the Pilanesburg National Park and bird-watching.
  • Manyane : Manyane offers tranquility and relaxation. Activities include bush golf, children's playground, walk in Aviary, self-guided or conducted game drives and a self-guided walking trails area. There is a centrally situated pool and playground.
  • Bakubung Bush Lodge : Bakubung Bush Lodge - a venue of such excellence that it has been awarded "Best Bush Conference Venue" at the 2000 Venue Finder Awards. It was also voted the ASATA\ Diners Club “Best South African Game Lodge" in 2003.
  • Kwa Maritane Resort : An ancient alkaline volcano fashioned the very hills that Kwa Maritane stands on today. Hence it's name, which literally means "Place of the Rock".
  • Tshukudu Bush Lodge : Tshukudu Lodge “Place of the Rhino” in the Pilanesberg, offering 6 Luxury Cottages nestled on an isolated rocky outcrop in the heart of a 55 000 hectare, malaria free, wildlife paradise. This incredible wilderness experience is but a 2 Hour drive from the concrete jungles of Johannesburg and Pretoria.
  • Bosele Group Camp : Bosele Camp, located within the Manyane Resort, offers a group facility in log-built dormitory-type accommodation. The well-equipped ablutions blocks provide good hot showers, and there is a bar, shop and restaurant within the camp, a short walk from Bosele. There are also teaching facilities.
